Mher Abeghian museum of Vagharshapat was established in 1990. It was based on paintings and graphic works dedicated to the native city by the artist.
People’s Artist of Armenian SSR Mher Abeghian was born in 1909 in the city of Vagharshapat. He received his professionnal education in Yerevan Industrial and Technical School of Fine Arts, in the Higher State Art and Technical Institute of Moscow (Vkhutein) and in the Institute of Proletarian Fine Art of Leningrad.
The artist carried out productive pedagogical activity. He was a lecturer at Panos Terlemezian Art College and Yerevan State Art and Theatre Institute. He was the president of Board of the Union of Artists of Armenia.
M. Abeghian created in all genres, including landscape, portraiture, still life and genre art. Epic spirit and bright saturation of light and colours were peculiar to his artworks. M. Abeghian’s unique thinking developed on traditions of national painting. He worked much with charcoal, pen point and sanguine as well as made etchings. But linocut was his preferable graphic technique. His works done in this printing technique are attractive for mastery of their performance, monumental forms and fine development and expressiveness of surface.
Mher Abeghian died in 1994 in Yerevan.
