Exhibition of Suren Safaryan’s graphic works

The exhibition dedicated to the Peoples’ Artist of Armenia Suren Safaryan’s 90th anniversary will be held on November 29, at 15.00 p.m. at the National Gallery of Armenia.

The creative achievements of Suren Safaryan marked the true spirit of the century. The artist adhered to the leading ideas of the time, and was familiar with masterpieces of world fine arts and with several painting schools and trends. He widened the scope of realism perception, thus creating a unique and modern art.

Suren Safaryan came to Armenian fine arts as a master of thematic-compositional and genre works, as well as that of reserved psychological portraits and collective-lyrical landscapes.

The artist had a wide scope of creative activity and worked in the genres of painting and unique and printed graphics. He was also distinguished by his unique technical working methods. His artworks include foreign series, travel swift drawings and studies, which make an important part of his collection. The graphic papers have soft expressiveness and are full of unique local colouring. They depict urban views of Budapest, Nagymaros and Bologna, silhouettes of buildings, monuments and bridges as well as human images, which express live impression and have power of observation.

Most of about fifty graphic papers from his family collection are exhibited for the first time. The artworks of this retrospective exposition include all important periods of the artist’s creative activity.
