“Witnessing” Exhibition dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide

 The exhibition entitled “Witnessing” and dedicated to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Armenian Genocide opens on April 18, at 16.00 p.m. at the National Gallery of Armenia.
Armenian Genocide of the beginning of the XX century committed by the Ottoman Turkey is one of the worst crimes against the humanity. This year we commemorate the centennial of the Genocide. Over this period Armenian nation has been keeping on its creative activity. Armenians widespread all over the world have made their contribution to the world culture.
The event being organized at the National Gallery of Armenia includes several exhibitions under one idea and one heading. The exhibitions represent the works of the people who have survived the Genocide, as well as those of their descendants. The event also includes works of Western-Armenian artists from the collections of Armenian Painting, Graphic art, Sculpture and Decorative-Applied of the NGA.
Grigor Aghasian’s works on the Genocide will also be displayed.
The second part of the exhibition includes modern painters and sculptors living in Armenia, each representing one artwork.
The third part of the exhibition represents Modern Diaspora Armenian Fine art, including thirteen artists each showing one artwork.
The forth part of the exhibition represents about 300 postcards entitled “Western Armenia and the Representation of Armenian Massacres in Postcards” preserved in the collection of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. The album of the exhibits will also be published. The exhibition also includes thematic lectures, educational programs entitled “My Komitas”, “Casket of Renaissance” . During it Poghos Yeghiazarian’s “National Songs of Western Armenia” will take place.
