The Guises of the Nude. Perceptions of Nudity in Armenian Graphic Arts

The exhibition brings together over 100 examples of graphic art from the collection of the National Gallery of Armenia, and extracts the representational diversity of nudity in Armenian art from the shadows of puritanical art-historical narratives.
In contrast to customary assumptions, the nude has been consistently present in Armenian art from the emergence of Armenian academic painting in the 1840s to our days. The exhibition outlines this history by indicating the key thematic and theoretical interests that have occupied artists in Armenia and the diaspora throughout this period.
